The guests are making fierce discussion at the annual meeting of the Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council.

On September 16, the 13th annual meeting of the Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council held a press conference on results. The event was fruitful, and a total of 88 pieces of suggestions made by the councilors were released.
30 experts making suggestions for Chongqing
30 experts of the Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council from 12 countries and regions attended the meeting. including The experts consist of 22 advisers, 8 representatives of advisor or observers. Together, they were working on the intelligent development of Chongqing.
Themed on “Chongqing’s Path to Intelligence: Strategy and Measures”, the meeting focused on intelligent development. How to drive the economic development by intelligence, how to upgrade the industries with help of intelligence, and how to emphasize the people-oriented application of intelligence were the key issues.
New opportunities for Chongqing
On the whole, this annual meeting was characterized by several features.
First, it is closely linked to the current trend of intelligent development. Through the in-depth discussion of hot issues, it will help Chongqing seize opportunities for a new round of industrial transformation and upgrading.
The second is to provide a lot of new ideas and new viewpoints. By discussing the cutting-edge technology, market demand and development trend, the meeting has made a full expectation of the intelligent future.
Thirdly, the meeting has shown a clear path for Chongqing’s intelligent development. The experts proposed solutions for smart manufacturing, smart cities, 5G, industrial Internet, green energy and so on. And it will definitely benefit from such fields.
New investment projects in Chongqing
At the annual meeting, several new investment projects were proposed, covering fields of energy, automobile, information, etc.
Schneider Electric Group has signed a cooperation agreement with Chongqing. It will establish an Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Center in Chongqing High-tech Zone. They will also deepen the cooperation in the fields of intelligent manufacturing innovation, industrial big data platform, industrial intelligence, etc.
The Engie Group has signed a regional energy supply cooperation project with Yuzhong District of Chongqing and Chongqing Gas Group, to provide energy services for 2 million square meters of commercial buildings in the city center of Caiyuanba area. This is another cooperative project of Engie Group after years of continuous investment in Chongqing.
Review of previous annual meetings
During previous annual meetings, more than 30 major projects have been signed.
In 2017, the trade value of Chongqing reached RMB 450.8 billion, with an increase of 8.9%. Trade in services reached USD 26.1 billion, meaning an growth of 26%. The actual use of foreign capital was USD 10.1 billion.
The foreign direct investment in Chongqing ranked the ninth in China and the first in the central and western China. The foreign direct investment reached USD 1.53 billion, also ranking the first in the central and western China. In a report of 2017, Chongqing ranked the fifth of business-friendly cities of China, and the first in the West.
In the first eight months of this year, it keeps a positive economic growth. It is estimated the total trade value will increase by 12.5%, and the trade in services, 19%. The actual use of foreign capital and the foreign direct investment are expected to reach USD 5.21 billion and USD 0.88 billion, respectively.
According to a third-party evaluation, the investment and trade facilitation level of Chongqing Free Trade Zone ranks first in the inland of China.
As of August 2018, there have been 18,991 newly registered enterprises. And 279 of the Fortune Global 500 companies have already settled in the west mega city of China.
Outlook on next year
At the press conference, the theme of the next annual meeting was announced: Building Inland International Trade and Logistics Hub.
The theme reflects the ambitious goal of Chongqing. As planned by the 19th National Congress of the CPC, it is expected Chongqing will become a new focus of reform and opening-up in China’s interior, and an inland international logistic hub.
The 14th annual meeting of the Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council will be held on September 27 and 28, 2019.
